Describe the benefits and the risks associated with immunizations. (M3)
Benefits and the risks of immunization for new-born babies and younger children
Benefits – Some people accept to immunize their babies or children to prevent them from harmful infections. Immunization is a safe, simple and effective way to protect children or babies against diseases. The recommended immunizations for new-born and children are against chickenpox, hepatitis B, rubella, rota virus, measles, etc. If new-born are vaccinated today, their life will not get harmful for future.
Risks – Some people do not accept to immunize their babies because are worried about side effects of immunization. These effects can be small reactions such as redness or swelling at the place that needle entered; some irritations, maybe babies are feeling unwell or have high temperature. These are some symptoms that can be quickly and easy treated. There are some severe side effects such as allergic reactions which mean that babies have itching on parts of their bodies or all body, also anaphylactic reactions which mean that babies have difficulties on respiration. These are two rare reactions that can affect children after immunity. But also the babies and young children can be treated if the people that gave it immunization deal this situation rapidly. New born babies can rapidly get infections because they have less immune developed without vaccination.

Benefits and risks of immunization for adults
Benefits – Many people in the present become ill are disabled and die because they are not vaccinated to prevent all of these. The vaccination it’s not received only for preventing diseases, often creates immunity which mean even unvaccinated persons have lower risk to get infections if most of them are immunized. Diphtheria and tetanus vaccine are taken every 10 years for persons under 65 years. These provide adults the protection against pertussis (shouting cough). In the present, chickenpox immunization is taken by a small number of adults because most of them had chickenpox as children. Adults also get pneumococcal immunizations to prevent the risks of diabetes.
Risks – Most vaccine are safe for adults. The serious sides effects are rarely appear. Most of the minor side effects are fevers; get reddish in the area of injection and symptoms like skin rash, swollen lymph nodes, joint pain, etc. For example, taking adenovirus vaccines have a lot of minor risks such as headaches, upper respiratory tract infections, abdominal pain, fever, cough, joint pain, etc. Also there are severe problems such as having blood in the urine or stool, pneumonia and inflammation of the stomach or intestines.

Benefits and risks of immunization for elderly
Benefits –Vaccines that are recommended for older people can prevent influenza, shingles, diphtheria/tetanus, pertussis and pneumococcal. A painful skin disease that is common for people over 70 years is called shingles and can be prevented by vaccines. It may be administered as a single injection for elderly. The shingle vaccine reduces the risk of getting shingles. This disease can be very painful and uncomfortable. Some people had pain for a long time because of initial rash which was healed. Those who had the shingles, the vaccine may work better for them and stimulate immunity against attacks shingles.
Risks – Older persons have a weak system immune. After they’ve got vaccinated the protective system immune become lower than other persons, so the effectiveness of vaccine will be lower. Even the flu vaccine works less for people with 65 years or older, there are many reasons why elderly people should be vaccinated every year. People at older age are at high risk of getting extremely ill, hospitalized or dying because of respiratory tract infection.
